Lou's Tuscan Travels
As you drive from the main highway to the small country roads the anticipation of seeing the Cypress trees lining the roads rises. You get that first sight of the Tuscan, with its terraced vineyards, and hilltop villas and villages and the view is unbelievable. Grape vines and clusters of olive trees are on every hillside causing you to say “awesome". This is all part of the excitement of visiting Tuscany either for the first or the 20th time, the view never gets old.
This time was no less exciting as we drove to the medieval walled hilltop village of Volterra. We were just in time to enjoy the Truffle festival, where we shopped for freshly pressed olive oils and truffles. Also, not to be missed in Volterra is their fine selection of Alabaster items from the area. Pre-Roman history is expressed in an Etruscan museum and just outside the walls are Roman ruins. A filming company was using Volterra for another backdrop for the Medici Netflix series. It was fun to see the props and they stated that they had built in the village for the movie. This is another wonder of Tuscany, unexpected treats around every corner.
